Hi Paige,

I like it.

I am guessing this one is from photo-reference. Similar to the previous self-portrait you've posted, the things that work is the natural/genuine posture of the body and the expression on the face. I am also guessing the background is grass and flowers. I like the mixed media effect separating the background from the foreground (body).

Good work :)

Take care,

AE.

I think it would look cool if there was a mysterious red halo surrounding the figure. Oh wait, nevermind.

Oh, I see how it's gonna be...my smart-ass comment gets ignored, huh?!

You're outta my neighborhood!!

Hi eebs,

Sorry for the delay once again. You are right - this one is from a photo reference, and the background is grass and flowers. It shows up a bit better on the actual piece, but I still wanted to keep it pretty loose as a contrast to the tighter pencil drawing of the figure.

I am glad you like it! This painting gave me fits. It's hanging on my wall now and I'm not sure I'm quite happy with it yet. I'm not sure if I should fix it or just move on to something new and fresh, though. Ah well. Part of art is just learning when to drop the brush and move on. :)

Thanks again,

Paige

You know what? I thought it would too, but it turns out that an ominous halo around the figure made the painting look like crap and also made everyone who looksed at the painting say something like: "I like it.... but what's up with that mysterious red halo surrounding the figure?"
Not ignored so much as ... well um ... forgotten? Is that better? Work has been crazy, the home internet's been slow, and the scribbles have been flying off my pen like hotcakes. Hotcakes, dammit!
The red halo comment was supposed to lead into a bunch of thoughts I had about the finished piece. Of course, it's been sooooo loooong that I've forgotten everything. Oh well.

Yeah, sorry again about the tardiness. I'm definitely interested to hear your thoughts on the end product, though. Maybe some phrases will jog your memory. Let's try ... "amazing, simply amazing" ... "paige has once again outdone herself with this beautiful and thought-provoking self portrait" ... "the work of a young artistic genius; I can't wait to see what she does next!"

No? Not working for you. How about: "definitely decent" ... "I liked it better with the mysterious red halo" ... "you should go back to law school you talentless hack."

(smile)
